Yates v. City of Glenaire, Missouri
Glenaire residents James and Frances Yates received
judgments against the City of Glenaire, Missouri for the
unlawful taking of the Yates’ property by the City of
Glenaire. The Yates, represented by McClelland Law Firm,
P.C., had objected to the City of Glenaire taking their
property without paying just compensation.

Ferguson v. Boydston et al.
Former sheriff's deputy was reinstated to his position, with
all seniority and benefits, following the settlement of his
case against the former Clay County Sheriff and the Clay
County Sheriff's Department. Clay County agreed to reinstate
the former deputy at a salary of $33,415.00 and pay attorney
fees of $22,570.00.
August 17, 2001 - The Liberty Sun News and Liberty
Tribune News
McClelland Law Firm, P.C. challenged the community to
support local activist Ed Chasteen in his fight against
multiple sclerosis. The McClelland Law Firm, P.C. will
donate $100 for every $200 Chasteen raises in MS150 bike
tour.
April 25, 2001 - Collins, et al. v. Radio 2000 KS, Inc.
et al.
McClelland Law Firm, P.C. successfully defends radio station
in an employment discrimination and misrepresentation
lawsuit. The plaintiffs received a jury verdict on only one
of four counts for $5,230 following a four day trial. The
plaintiffs had sought compensatory and punitive damages in
excess of $2 million.
April 23, 2001 - Farmers Elev. & Supply Co., Inc. v.
Griffitt.
McClelland Law Firm, P.C. obtained a judgment of $78,449.25
in favor of Farmers Elevator & Supply Co. on an action based
upon a promissory note.
January 22, 2001 - Sublett v. City of Sedalia, Missouri,
et al.
Firefighter's widow, represented by McClelland Law Firm,
P.C., received a judgment of $45,400.89 against the City of
Sedalia, Missouri, together with an increase in benefits
from $459.50 to $935.85 per month for the rest of her life.
November 14, 2000 - Cooper v. HyVee, Inc.
The McClelland Law Firm, P.C. represented a seventy-one (71)
year old former grocery store employee, in a successful
appeal in her unemployment compensation case. The Court of
Appeals for the Western District of Missouri reversed the
decision of the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial
Relations Commission. Such a result goes against the grain
of the majority of decisions where the Commission’s
decisions are consistently upheld.

Kersten v. Board of Education of the Liberty Pub. School
Dist. No. 53
McClelland Law Firm, P.C. is successful in obtaining what
has been labeled the largest settlement in Missouri of an
Open Meetings Law case. Former Liberty Mayor Bill Kersten
settles Open Meetings Law case with Liberty School Board for
$22,705.00. Missouri's top media attorneys agree that the
settlement may be the largest ever in such a case. Kersten
says that this victory will send a message to Missouri
politicians that the law protects the rights of taxpayers to
know what their elected officials are doing.
April 10, 2000 - UMKC University News
According to an investigative report by the school
newspaper, the University of Missouri has spent over $3
million in dental school lawsuits. Since 1985, eighteen (18)
dental school faculty members have brought suits against the
dental school dean (Dean Reed) alleging discriminatory or
retaliatory treatment. McClelland Law Firm, P.C. acted as
legal counsel in most of the lawsuits filed against Dean
Reed and the University.
December 22, 1999 - State of Missouri v. Farmers Elevator
& Supply Co. Inc.
McClelland Law Firm, P.C. represented Farmers Elevator &
Supply Co., Inc., ("Farmers") against the State of Missouri
in a case involving the ownership of the Katy Trail. The
Missouri Department of Natural Resources had brought suit
against Farmers alleging breach of contract for failure to
make payments in 1995, 1996 and 1997 under a road crossing
agreement involving the Katy Trail. Farmers filed a
counterclaim and alleged that the contract was void since
Farmers owned in fee simple the road crossing at issue. The
Court agreed and entered judgment in favor of Farmers on its
counterclaim and ordered the State of Missouri to repay
Farmers the fees it had previously paid.
November 30, 1998 - Forbes Magazine
Maupin v. Hallmark Cards, Inc.
McClelland Law Firm, P.C. goes after the financial records
of Hallmark. A former Hallmark employee wanted the financial
records as part of his fraud and breach of contract lawsuit
against the greeting card company.
October 7, 1998 - Gumbhir v. Curators of the University
of Missouri.
A University of Missouri/Kansas City School of Pharmacy
professor represented by the McClelland Law Firm, P.C., is
awarded attorney's fees of $46,750.00 together with
$8,846.40 lost wages and a raise in pay of $4,423.20 in his
discrimination and retaliation lawsuit against the
University.
September 22, 1994 - Gier v. Curators of the University
of Missouri.
University of Missouri/Kansas City Dental School professor
represented by the McClelland Law Firm, P.C., is awarded
$23,450.00 lost wages and the court awarded an additional
$23,450.00 in liquidated damages for a total of $46,900.00
in his lawsuit against the University. Attorney fees of
$213,881.00 were also awarded by the court.
February 21, 1994 - Missouri Lawyers Weekly
The University of Missouri/Kansas City loses fourth
employment discrimination case in a row. The jury determined
that the University of Missouri-Kansas City had willfully
discriminated and retaliated against a dentistry professor
represented by the McClelland Law Firm, P.C. The professor
was awarded $23,450.00 for lost salary and because of the
willful violations the court could double the award. During
deliberations the jury asked for two things - a calculator
and whether they could award damages greater than the amount
requested.
July 8, 1988 - Washburn v. Kansas City Life Ins. Co.
Former Kansas City Life Insurance, Company employee,
represented by McClelland Law Firm, P.C., wins his appeal
and on remand to the United States District Court for the
Western District of Missouri, the court awards damages for
lost wages, benefits, taxes and interest of $293,374.24. The
court also awards attorney fees and costs of $82,751.36. In
addition, the Plaintiff received an increase in monthly
retirement benefits of $155.45 for the remainder of his
life.
